California Middle School is in the Sacramento City Unified School District.

California's mission is to successfully prepare our students for high school by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become productive citizens and motivated achievers.

Our school strives to build mastery in key areas of instruction. These areas are reading/language arts, mathematics, science, history/social science, visual and performing arts, and physical education. Parents can also help, we believe, by assisting their children with the understanding that we both expect their best effort.

Frequent expressions of such support will encourage them to do well and will go a long way in promoting their achievement in school. Parents are also encouraged to participate in our PTSA, Parents-on-Campus Program, as well as our leadership and decision making councils.

In addition to our second to none GATE/Advance Learner programs in language arts, history and science, California Middle School has a successful program of AVID/MESA, English Language Learners, Spanish and French, Humanities and Drama. Computer labs are in place for bilingual and Chapter I students. Our staff is committed to promoting outstanding achievement by all students. Students are expected to achieve high standards in oral and written expressions, mathematical computations and algebraic expressions, historical explorations and discoveries, scientific inquiries and experiments.

Our after-school programs support the teaming environment at California Middle School. We offer tutoring, life skills, art appreciation, computer-assisted learning, clubs and mentoring. We have competitive teams in flag football, basketball, soccer, track and field, fishing, golf and Lacrosse.
