Osaka-Ya is a Japanese bakery and grocery store located south of Downtown. Mochi and manju are made fresh daily, and are filled with white bean paste, mashed red bean paste, or smooth red bean paste. On Fridays and Saturdays the shop sells a selection of bento. Snow cones and Gunther's freezes are sold from their outside window during the summer.

2005-09-25 23:47:44   A coworker nagged me for weeks to go and try their snow cones, so when I found myself nearby I stopped in to see what all his hype was about—only to find out that he was hyping the wrong thing. The mochi is easily the best you can buy in the Sacramento area and I no longer need to visit Benkyodo in SF Japantown for my fix. The staff there is nice, and will gladly explain what the different varieties are. —KevinChin

I didn't care for the mashed red bean paste ones that much, but that's probably just a matter of personal preference— I've grown accustomed to super sweet and smooth bean paste. —CraigBrozinsky
