Opened in 1913 as La Bonita, the 4 Star Theater is a small repertory art house theater located in The Richmond.

Since 1992, Frank and Lida Lee had owned the theater as Lee Neighborhood Theaters. With 2 Screens with a kick-ass marquee, they provided alternative cinema from around the world, showcasing foreign and independent features. 4-Star Theatre was one of the last few theatres in the Bay Area to show new Asian films on a regular basis.

In 2021 they sold the theater to anonymous buyers who were interested in keeping the venue a movie theater. The new owners tapped CinemaSF to manage it. The theater had been shut down since March 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic, and following a restoration of the venue, the 4 Star opened again December 8, 2022.

The theater is now a single screen venue that mostly plays DCP, but has capability for 35mm and laserdisc projection. Their concessions offers pizza, bagels, beer and wine, along with popcorn and soda. With the renovation came the  addition of the Hot House Gallery, named after a Playland attraction. The gallery features monthly rotating shows showcasing local artists.
