Bulletin Board Systems

Before there was the Internet, there was a span of time in which people exchanged email, social-media, and files by means of dial-up Bulletin Board Systems (BBSes) which they accessed from their computers over phone lines with hardware devices called modems.

Some of the notable BBSes of SanLuisObispo were

  • The Quantum Connection (DMG BBS)

  • FSBBS (543-8227)

  • The Pentode (549-9104, 544-4606)

  • The Message Center

  • The Dark Side of the Moon (544-5419 Genesis)

  • Allanon's Bar and Grill (DMG BBS)

  • The File Center (FIDO)

  • The Temple of the Screaming Electron
