  • Met with Ron Skamfer [[email protected]] from facilities. His jurisdiction is the UU and the Rec Center.
    • Ron has toured a lot of other campuses and found that they manage waste much better than Cal Poly does.
    • Marketing at the waste container works well. (Signage on what to put where)
      • People do not know where to put their stuff waste!
    • Ron says there is a lot of food waste in the UU bins.
      • So much contamination too. (nothing is where it should be)
  • Met with Brett Edwards (Mr. Eco) [[email protected]] about his video about Recyclemnia.
    • There exists a video from UCSF that breaks down all of the waste stream for the campus but it is really boring and 10 minutes long.
    • Brett will make a similar video that is shorter and more exciting.
    • There is funding from PGE to make an energy video but that is separate.
    • IWMA might have funding available for a recycling video.
    • Brett wants from the Zero Waste Club all of the information to be included in the video. ie: how does the waste stream work at Cal Poly. Get some numbers, etc.
    • We want to spin it to be recyclemania specific!
  • Opportunity to get a display with ASI and the video up on the screens in the dining halls!
    • Get the recyclemania stats up on the screens in campus dining.
    • Competition against a few rival schools like UCSB!
  • Student government can send out a mass email about Recyclemania, maybe...
  • Mr. Eco could perform at the UU stage to kick off recyclemania!
    • Ron will talk with the concert folks.
  • Zero Waste can help make signage with IWMA and facilities for ALL the bins.
  • Get IWMA to come to the next stakeholders meeting.
    • Might help finance signage.
  • Recyclemania competition between majors or departments?
    • Infrastructure doesn’t exist to weigh individual groups. Only the campus as a whole.
  • Other outreach campaigns.
    • School projects such as art projects or architecture?
    • Miniature model of Cal Poly made of all trash!
