Harold James McCurry (1885-1971) was a California photographer who began his business in San Luis Obispo from approximately 1904 to 1909, when he relocated his photography business to Sacramento. His father was a dentist in San Luis Obispo.1 Harold McCurry operated his studio out of  a building on Garden Street that his father owned, the studio had formerly been operated by the photographer Lee Fitzhugh. The family came to California from Pennsylvania. He was hired as a photographer for Cal Poly.3

McCurry moved to Sacramento around 1909. He was hired as the photographer of the California State Fair and the photographer of the Pasear Tour. The family operated the McCurry Foto Studio in Sacramento. In about 1922, McCurry sold his photo studio and became Sacramento postmaster.2
