Oats Peak is a lesser known hike in Montaña De Oro. It's the second highest peak in the park, a mile or so inland of Valencia Peak. My favorite way to do this trail is to start at the Coon Creek Trail trailhead and loop back by climbing Oats Peak. You come back to Pecho Valley Road a mile or so north of where you start, but it's pretty easy to hitch a ride back to the end of the road.

Trailhead: The trail begins at Pecho Valley Rd at the main campground

Distance: 5.5 miles round trip, closer to 8 if you loop

Difficulty: Medium

Time: 4-6 hours

Type: This trail can be done either as an out-and-back or a loop. If you do the loop, you'll have a bit of walking along the road, or hitchhike back to your car.
