The clubhouse joined the Sunset Drive-In in an area that was known as "Portuguese Flat." The previous name of what is now "Elks Road" was formerly "Portuguese Flat Road."

The lodge was opened in January 1961, with an Open House held for the public in February 1961, 1,2

The Elks pools were were constructed in the Spring of 1961.3
