Don Jail
The Toronto Jail is commonly known as the Don Jail as it is located along the east side of the Don River at 550 Gerrard Street East .
It is a 145-year-old structure, designed by architect William Thomas in the Italian Renaissance style.
When built in 1864, the Old Don was the biggest jail in North America, in a provincial backwater of about 50,000 people.
