Innis College

About Innis College

It was founded in 1964, two years after New College and was originally going to be called Newer College. :-0 The college is named after Harold Adams Innis (November 5, 1894 – November 8, 1952) who was a Canadian professor of political economy at the University of Toronto.

Innis is on the St. George campus of the University of Toronto, across the street and north of the Robarts Library.

Compared to much of the UofT undergraduate experience, Innis College is intimate. It's an informal home to about 1,650 undergraduate students, 400 of whom are first-year students.

Innis prides itself on its high academic standards, vibrant community and supportive counselling and academic services.

The college building blends old and new styles by incorporating a substantial Victorian home into a functional modern structure.

It contains a forum-style auditorium and cinema, a library, a café with an outdoor patio, a rooftop garden, and student study and lounge spaces.

The Innis Residence offers modern apartment-style living and is located directly across the street from the Innis College building.

Governed on a student-faculty parity structure, Innis draws on and values student involvement and leadership.

Innis Town Hall is within the Innis College Building at 2 Sussex Avenue and is known throughout the city for hosting numerous Film Festivals as well as CINSSU's Free Friday Films.

St. George Station is just up the street.
