Yolo Food Bank – 6th Annual Running of the Turkeys: Starting in charming downtown Woodland, runners and walkers in the community will gather to give back and get some exercise before feasting on their Thanksgiving meals. On Thanksgiving morning, November 27, Yolo Food Bank will host the 6th annual Running of the Turkeys 5k Run and Walk to raise funds to feed our hungry neighbors in Yolo County. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., the race starts and finishes at Heritage Plaza, 600 Main Street, in downtown Woodland.  Donations of canned food and frozen turkeys will be accepted at the event. From serious runners to families with children, the Running of the Turkeys offers a fun experience and heightens awareness about hunger in Yolo County.

The certified race/walk route follows Main Street east to 6th Street, carves right on Lincoln heading west before looping back on Cottonwood and proceed to the finish line down historic Main Street.

Event proceeds will support food assistance programs within Yolo County beyond the holiday seasons. Food is distributed through eight Yolo Food Bank direct distribution programs, and by 60 partner agencies. Yolo Food Bank programs and partner agencies serve children, families, individuals, veterans, homeless, and senior community members in urban and rural areas of Yolo County.

Individuals, teams and families can register in advance at the event website: www.runningoftheturkeys.org.  Additionally, race day registration starts at 7am.
