Roddy Park) is a park located on the northwest corner of West Kentucky Avenue and Mallard Drive in northwest Woodland, connected on its west side to Woodland West Park. All the houses on the south side of Phoenix Court back up to Roddy Park. West of those houses is Woodland West Park, according to the city park map—but there's no indication of this separation between the two parks when you visit them in person. Only Roddy Park has a sign or any of the other standard infrastructure for city parks.

Roddy Park features a playground, barbecues, sheltered picnic tables, and a water fountain. The playground features a basic Spanish-English translation guide that children can refer to or point to for help in conversing with one another. The park can be reserved for private use.
Trees planted at Roddy Park include the invasive weed species Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera). Other non-native trees and shrubs at Roddy Park include Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii), Maidenhair Tree (Ginkgo biloba), Creeping Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis), Glossy Abelia (Linnaea × grandiflora), Common Myrtle (Myrtus communis), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), and Saw-leaf Zelkova (Zelkova serrata).

This park is dedicated in the memory of Jeff Roddy, a city employee in the Parks & Recreation Department for over 28 years. As Recreation Supervisor, his contributions to this community included directing the city's adult sports programs and adult softball leagues, organizing the highly successful summer concert series, and developing recreation classes and teen programs. He was a highly respected team player, hard working, dedicated, connected to his community, and was always a pleasure to work with. Away from work, Jeff had many other interests including being an accomplished chef, a musician, and music trivia buff. Jeff enjoyed traveling, had a quick sense of humor, and was the ultimate sports fan. He was dedicated to his family and had a genuinely generous heart for everyone. Jeff's sense of humor, generosity and love of music are what family, friends, co-workers and neighbors said they will remember the most. His last few days were filled with enjoyment doing what he truly loved to do, being with friends, playing music and watching sports. Jeff passed away at a Sacramento Kings game on December 19, 2004. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. |
