415 Main Street, Wheatland, CA 95692

The Hairdressing and Shaving Saloon was established in 1875 by Edward Park Duplex, who was later elected mayor of Wheatland in 1888. He was the first African-American man to be elected mayor of a western United States city. The Hairdressing and Shaving Saloon has remained in business as a barbershop continuously since 1875, although it has sometimes been known by the name "George's Barber Shop."
