Delaware State University is a public university in Dover, Delaware. It was established in 1891 to with a purpose of teaching African American students. This is why until 1947 it was called the State College for Colored Students. The Delaware State University is the second-largest university in the state (after the University of Delaware).

Its mottos are "Making our mark on the world" and "Enter to Learn, Go forth and serve".

Delaware State University has campuses in Wilmington, Delaware and Georgetown, Delaware.

Marching Band

More than anything athletically, except maybe former NFL wide receiver John Taylor, Delaware State is known for one thing: The band, which calls itself The Approaching Storm. Michael Rothstein, writing for AnnArbor.com in 2009: On the field, Michigan ruled. Off of it, it was all about the Delaware State band.

History

The university was started on May 15, 1891. It first gave degrees in 1898. It received provisional accreditation 46 years later. In 1947, it became Delaware State College. In 1949 it lost its accreditation, but got it back in 1957. In 1993, the institution’s name was changed to Delaware State University.

Tuition Fees

Full-time Student tuition fees are rather affordable (In-State - $7,868 per year, Out-of-State - $16,904 per year.)

However, students also have a possibility to work part-time during their studying. Click here for more information. Part-time students, pay $293 per credit hour (In-State) or $670 per credit hour (Out-of-State), $50 registration fee and $55 technology fee.

The university also offers online and distance learning educational programs for students that cannot pursue their degree program at one its campuses. The distance education fee is $35 per class and from $356 to $400 per credit hour.
