On March 8, 2017, the University of Michigan men's basketball team was on board a charter airplane operated by Ameristar Charters, heading for the Big Ten tournament in Washington, DC. The aircraft aborted its takeoff at Willow Run Airport (KYIP) and the plane went off the end of Runway 23L shortly before 3 p.m. The seven crew members and 109 passengers on board had only a few minor injuries and no fatalities.
