Penguicon is an annual conference that combines the open source philosophy with sci-fi convention irreverence.
It is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit conference that started in 2003. In 2014, they had 1,377 attendees.
They have programming tracks for Tech (programming, circuits, system administration), Science (astronomy, neuroscience, genetics), DIY (makerspaces), Ecology (homesteading), Gaming and Videogames, After Dark (18+), Costuming, Food (make your own cheese or soda), Literature (Sci-Fi),Action/Adventure (learn martial arts, poi, how to hold your breath), Film, Music (nerdcore rap, chiptunes, filk), and Mayhem (Zombie Tag, scavenger hunts).
2015
In 2015, Penguicon will concentrate on biohacking, from 3D printed limbs to implantable human augmentation like RFID capsules. There are over 450 hours of community-requested programming, with over 100 hours in their technology track over the weekend.
It will take place April 24-26, 2015 at the Westin Southfield Hotel.
