The Michigan Alpha chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity was originally installed in 1864, as the 16th established chapter of the fraternity. Phi Delt was widely regarded as one of the top fraternities on campus, and was able to claim alums such as Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon and Hall of Fame football announcer Bob Ufer. Phi Delt remained a mainstay at the University until 1998 when the General Headquarters of Phi Delta Theta revoked the group's charter, ending a house that had been on campus for over 130 straight years.
