The Sandhill Soaring Club is an organization for glider pilots. SSC conducts flight operations out of Richmond Field (FAA location identifier 69G) located at Gregory, Michigan.

Monthly membership meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Ann Arbor Airport Terminal Building (Airport Drive, just west of South State St. and I-94). Meetings include a business portion and a speaker, and guests are always welcome.

The NTSB report indicates the winch cable revealed “features consistent with overstress fracture.” The report also stated that individual wires within the cable bundle were broken at several locations. A log maintained by the Sandhill Soaring Club, which owned the glider, indicated that the cable was last replaced in September 2005, according to the report.
