Thomas Emmet Hayden (born December 11, 1939) is an American social and political activist and politician, most famous for his involvement in the animal rights, and the anti-war and civil rights movements of the 1960s. He is the former husband of actress Jane Fonda and the father of actor Troy Garity.

Hayden was co-founder of Students for a Democratic Society while at the University of Michigan. He was editor at the Michigan Daily in 1960-1961.  Hayden is the main author of The Port Huron Statement available here: http://www.aadl.org/catalog/record/1250778

A collection of documents from Hayden, including his extensive FBI file, were acquired by the Labadie Collection in 2014. As of this writing, no finders aid is yet available to the collection.

Hayden currently runs The Peace and Justice Resource Center.
