Washtenaw Literacy is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that provides free tutoring to adults 16 and older who wish to improve their reading, writing or English as a second language skills.

Each year, we serve 1,800 learners in Washtenaw County with the help of a dedicated and trained network of over 700 volunteer tutors. Tutoring happens throughout the county at local libraries, book stores, churches, coffee shops and more.

Adults who want to improve their reading, writing or English skills can receive help completely free of charge by contacting us by email ([email protected]), phone (734-879-1320), or stopping by our main office inside Ypsilanti District Library on Whittaker Road.

We are always looking for patient volunteer tutors with a sense of humor who would like to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors in Washtenaw County. We also have other volunteering opportunities, if you would like to share your marketing, fundraising or other professional skills.
