On Nov. 4, 2003, Ann Arbor voters decided a ballot question on whether to pay a 0.5 mill tax for 30 years, proceeds of which would be used to protect open space both inside and outside the city. The millage was approved, with 14,525 (67.36%) voting in favor and 7,037 (32.64%) voting against it citywide A majority in every precinct voted for the proposal.
