History and Development

Starting as a company with only one employee, Associated Greek Services has evolved into a company with a big client base and staff.

Previously operating under both Heartline and The IT Guys, Associated Greek Services is a local family-owned company that provides networking and IT needs for Greek housing existing on local college campuses. Associated Greek Services was created and is currently owned by Norman Heartsfield accompanied by maintenance from a loyal staff. First opening in 2002 under the name Heartline, this homegrown company has been around the Bloomington-Normal area for many years. After operating under the name Heartline for a few years, 2007 marked the year that the company opted for a catchier name that also easily explained their services: The IT Guys. The company flourished as The IT Guys for eight years, but went through another revamp in 2015 to again refocus their title towards their target client. This most recent revamp has brought the company to its current title: Associated Greek Services.

In 2011 a fraternity house, Delta Sigma Phi, on the Illinois State University campus burned down. Though at the time it was operating under the name IT Guys, AGS was there to help rebuild the house and re-install all computer wiring from the ground up. Security cameras were also installed as a benefit to the fraternity for reviewing the cause of any possible future accidents.

Expansion

Since its creation, Greek Associated Services has grown to other campuses in Illinois, Indiana and Florida. A major area of focus for the company is the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana and the Illinois State University campus right here in Bloomington-Normal. Servicing Greek housing at U of I as well as ISU has been important to the company for many years.

After initially opening as just a computer service oriented company, Associated Greek Services has since opened its doors repairing broken phone and laptop screens at the request of clients. Installation and monitoring of security cameras is also an option for any Greek housing who wants to up their security measures.

The company is always looking to grow further and Greek housing on any campus, especially those on both ISU and U of I's campuses, are encouraged to contact AGS at any time with business inquiries.

How it Works

Just contact Associated Greek Services with any inquisitions at any time of day.

Contracts are pre-arranged with the client so that every service is laid out and agreed upon before any payments are put in order. All the client needs to do is decide what they want! The company provides all needed pieces of equipment. If AGS doesn't already possess the needed part, they will order it for the client. In addition to providing the client with any necessary equipment, Associated Greek Services will also install both physical equipment and any programs needed.

If the network should ever go down causing internet to no longer be available, contact AGS and an on-site visit can be arranged at any time if not immediately. The same idea applies to any piece of equipment functioning incorrectly.

Payments are only made twice a year as a convenience for the client, so that there is no need to worry about another monthly bill.

About the Owner

Norman Heartsfield gained his start in the IT and computer world in the late 1980s when he went to college. This was around the time that computers were a new and interesting topic, and everyone wanted to study them. So naturally, he attended Southern Illinois University studying computer science. After moving on from college to the working world, he worked many desk jobs and soon realized it was not the right fit for him. Working for many companies and trying out many work environments, he decided having his own business that was more hands on would be the perfect fit. And thus his company was created in the early 2000s.

Before he worked with computers, Norm worked many years in the construction business. Construction work has given him knowledge of how to install computer wiring within walls throughout housing structures in the most beneficial way. His understanding of how housing is built has proved helpful to clients. Many greek houses undergo renovations during the summer months while the students are away at home, leaving many walls torn down and ceilings exposed. But this only makes installing wiring throughout the house easier for him.

Client Review

"[Associated Greek Services] has been at the Alpha Xi Delta sorority house on the U of I campus longer than I have. Our house is the resident for 50 girls on the average and has one hundred and ninety members. I am a tough customer and expect that everything is working and that we get what we are paying for. [Associated Greek Services] has met my expectations. College students need their technology and they need it NOW. Their phones, printers, computers, tablets and whatever else comes up, the company is always on top of the situation. They recently installed security cameras for us so that we have control of our safety issues. This was heavily endorsed by the Champaign Police Department. [Associated Greek Services] is like the mailman: rain, snow, sleet or hail, they are here."

- Connie Kelley, House Director of Alpha Xi Delta sorority at University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.
