Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews is a book cafe in Chapel Hill, North Carolina that is owned and operated by Miranda and Jaime Sanchez alongside the store’s team. After Epilogue’s soft launch in November 2019, the store has hosted a variety of community-oriented events ranging from book clubs to pop-up shops. 

Epilogue is located in the heart of downtown Chapel Hill, at 109 E Franklin St., #100. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. 

In July 2022, Epilogue’s sister storefront, Prologue Used and Rare Books, hosted its soft launch. Prologue stands adjacent to Epilogue, allowing for a door to easily connect the two storefronts. The opening of Prologue more than doubled the current capacity of Epilogue, adding over 2,200 square feet. Both of the storefronts currently operate on the same store hours, listed above. 

Epilogue currently carries over 8,700 book titles online and many in-store ranging across genres and types. Aside from books, Epilogue sells puzzles, greeting cards and surprise boxes: a personalized gift curated by employees.

The storefront also accepts used books adhering to its guidelines. Epilogue’s buying hours for used books operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. 

Epilogue is a LatinX-owned business which can be seen through the freshly made cuisine they offer in the cafe. Churros are served daily, along with traditional Mexican bread Conchas that are available in Chocolate, Vanilla, and Matcha depending on the day. 

Throughout the week, Epilogue's menu will feature other Latin dishes including Hojaldra, Buñuelos, Empanadas, Besos, Polvorones and Barritas. The cafe also offers other bakery items such as Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Peanut Butter Cookies and Vegan Lavender Cupcakes.

The cafe has an extensive drink menu that provides a variety of coffee drinks, teas, alcoholic beverages and their specialty - chocolate drinks. All coffee drinks are offered in small and medium including traditional drinks like Drip, Espresso, Americano, Latte and Cappuccino, but Epilogue also features different flavors such as Blueberry Lavender, Masala Spice, Mayan Spice, Rosemary and Lavender Sea Salt. 

Those specialty flavors can also be incorporated into the chocolate drinks served. Hot chocolate is a staple from Epilogue as the cafe is inspired by the Chocolaterías throughout Spain and Mexico. The quality is the most important factor in these drinks so the cafe sources chocolate from local chocolatiers in Raleigh.

Epilogue is a place for the community to go to get a pick me up to get work done or to gather with friends to unwind after a long day. The brews they serve are sourced locally from Carrboro Coffee Roasters, supplying both the coffee beans and the bases for teas and beers on tap come from Ponysaurus in Durham.

Epilogue also offers contactless delivery within the immediate Chapel Hill and Carrboro area from noon to 5 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. There is a $3.50 fee and a minimum of $25 and at least two items.
