Chico Chai is a local made favorite brewed by Sarah Adams and is known for being more spicy and and complex than other Chais. Sarah has been making the Chai since 2001 and began selling it in 2003. Chico Chai has a distinct flavor, a balance of spicy and sweet that gives it a powerful edge over its sweeter but lighter competition (see Oregon Chai and Nub Chai). It is usually available as a tea concentrate made from infusion of organic spices and fair trade black tea. It is served fresh with steamed milk or soy at cafes and restaurants such as Has Beans, Chocolate Mystique Cafe and Annie's Asian Grill. Hot or iced, Chico Chai is popular year-round. It is also possible to buy the concentrate at stores such as S&S Produce, Chico Natural Foods, and usually at the Saturday Farmer's Market. A loose-leaf variety for your steeping pleasure can be bought at Made in Chico, Maisie Janes, and the market.
