Special Events
The City Council has appointed on two different occasions a Special Events Task Force.
The City Plaza Project
As of August 2006, the major controversy is over the City Plaza. Where once it was a grassy area with broad elder Oak trees, many residents now say that City Plaza project has turned it into a "concrete jungle." An overwhelming majority of letters sent to and printed by Chico News & Review (CNR) have a very critical eye toward it. However, city officials are more optimistic and hope that people wait to judge until after the multi-million dollar project is completed.
As of 7 October 2006, sod has been laid and trees planted. The Plaza unofficially opened in early November. The official opening occurred Spring 2007.
