Al Klinger was an art teacher at Holmes Junior High School for over 30 years from the 70s-90s. He retired in the late 90s and now thoroughly enjoys being retired. Over the years he taught thousands of kids, and is still remembered by many in Davis and the surrounding areas for his unique way of teaching, and friendly personality.
He still works on various art projects and had his first art show at the Davis Art Center in 2007, which included a number of his interesting "coffee grounds and glue" canvases made over the past few decades.
Mr. Klinger is the man, occasionally we meet up at Steves and share breadsticks and conversation. He was a good teacher as well, I have the dubious distinction of being kicked out of one of his classes, which is very hard to do as he was very patient with us. —StevenDaubert
Mr. Klinger was my art teacher in the 80's at Holmes. I was just telling my middle school aged daughter about him - he was the best. He had an open door policy on his classroom and anybody who wanted to pop in was welcome. (even if you were supposed to be in science, math, etc). It wouldn't fly these days but it was pretty cool. He had a big impact on lots of kids - huge heart. Jen Jones
