Asian Pacific Culture Week

As people of varied ethnicities, diverse backgrounds, and rich cultures, we must find pride in our unique histories while embracing our intersections of our struggles. We must go forward, recognize the past, and grow. Unity is diversity is crucial in order for us to acknowledge the systemic oppression we have all faced. Through allyship and solidarity, we can attempt to combat the idea that our different cultures are homogenous. We combat the idea that we are the model minority and that we are incapable of standing in solidarity with other communities of color. We combat the idea that we are politically, socially passive. Rather, we are made up of diverse communities that are complex, nuanced and have shown a long history of resistance, activism and social movements. Join us to celebrate our diversity and our unity throughout this Asian Pacific Culture Week and Asian Pacific Culture Night Market!

Asian Pacific Culture Week (APCW) is part of the CCC Culture Days.  A week-long series of arts, education, and entertainment events produced at UC Davis with a special focus on the Asian Pacific Islander American student population. It is an annual event in April and is highlighted with a series of free shows.

Since its inception in 1973, APCW has provided the UC Davis campus with cultural programs designed to both educate and celebrate. APCW became a University sponsored program in 1979 and has grown into an annual event anticipated by students, faculty, staff, and members of the Davis community alike. Speakers from diverse corners of the Asian Pacific Islander community fill the week with presentations. In the past, musicians, comedians, actors, authors, artists, and civil rights activists have visited the campus to share their experiences. A partner program for the API community is the Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Retreat (APILR).

This year, APCW will be held April 18-22, 2016.
