Recently, though, I've tired of Woodstocks—a different story—and when my coworkers ordered Steve's for the office, I was sold. I had the BBQ chicken pizza, but I think next time I'd get a more traditional pizza...the chicken was pretty overcooked and dry. I'm still on the fence about whether the Still Riding Pizza (which Steve's uses) or Whole Foods (which I use at home) crust's are better, but nonetheless, it was tasty. For now, the only downside of the GF pizza is the medium size only and the price. I realize it definitely costs more for Steve's to purchase these crust's, but I would love it if someone could explain to me why GF items cost more in general. Most GF companies only produce GF goods, and is rice flour really that much more expensive than wheat flour...or are they just using the excuse that it's a "specialty item" to overcharge people with special diets? —AmLin

They got the wrong address three times, called me up each time asking for my address again, and then ended up delivering the wrong pizza and ran off before I could even look inside. I called them up, and the guy brought over my now cold pizza without any sort of refund or anything. I might as well have walked straight there with the number of times I had to get up because of their mistakes.

My only complaint was that 30 minutes after we left (after going for Yogurt and coffee), we came back to our car and looked on the porch and saw our plates and left over beer was still on the table, after at least a half hour. Either the staff isn't doing their job or they don't have enough staff on. First they made the salad bar "one trip only", then today I called in an order while I was walking there and was told "not sure if you can get pepperocinis on stix bc there is no button for it, but I'll check," then when I arrived was told it is not allowed. Fortunately I was also getting salad bar and essentially emptied the canister of pepperocinis onto my plate (partly out of spite, a-hem! see what sucky customer service does?) a. I have been doing ordering my stix like that for months now and b. I only discovered this because once when I called in an order the person offered it to me as an option. In addition to this I was in a huge group of around 20 people eating in the back room. I asked for two small "to go" boxes and got them and when my friend went and asked for one more the guy said he had to ask the manager if it was allowed. Really? 2011-06-02 12:29:07 I've been eating Pizza in Davis for 25 years and I eat at Steve's more than any other place. I have always liked their Pizza's more than Woodstock's but I do enjoy the occasional super cheesy greasy pizza from there too. Village Bakery (the orginal, not the new restaurant) is also good but I have always preferred Steve's. The only place I like better is Symposium but it is a bit different. I don't know why people always complain about Steve's being expensive; their prices are pretty comparable to Woodstocks and Vitos for what you get (Village has always been a great deal.) The service is good most of the time. The atmosphere is good because unlike Woodstock's or Vito's, you don't have to shout at the person across the table just to be heard. And you're not sitting shoulder to shoulder with the table next to you. Their Happy Hour and Lunch Specials are some of the best in town. $5 for a small pizza or a huge sandwich is a steal. The Philly is not traditional but it's fantastic (though I admit, a bit greasy). Tuesday is a ridiculously good deal. Pizza taste is largely subjective, as you can tell by reading comments on this and other pizza places in town; but for my money, I like Steve's. —WillODonnell

Steve (and his sons) are true gentlemen, living the American dream with a great (delicious!) product, and a Davis community treasure. Best pizza in town, as it has been since it opened... just my opinion there, but what;s not in question is that the ingredients are always fresh, high quality. Wheat crust is delicious, if you're in to that. You'll pay a little more for pizza here, but again, in my humble opinion, it's worth it. My wife is a Ranch dressing fan, I'm not... but even I'll admit it is INCREDIBLE! Made fresh, dangerously addicting... and again, I don't even like Ranch. It's that good. Just make sure you don't get the blue cheese (if you want ranch of course), it's in the container right next to the ranch... just ask the staff which is which. So now for the obligatory history portion: When Steve's first opened, it was just the front section... the back room wasn't opened (built?) until the late 80's, I believe. —OldDavis73
