Christian Brothers (Eblana Avenue) opened

20,000 troops embark from Kingstown to fight in the Crimean War

Soldiers return from the Crimean War to Kingstown - less many casualties

Crimean War Cannon arrives in Kingstown

Birth of George Bernard Shaw (Playwright, critic, political activist, Nobel Prizewinner) at 33 Synge Street Dublin, spent much of his young life at Torca Cottage, Dalkey

CBC Eblana Avenue opened

Rumley Avenue renamed as Mulgrave Street

Completion of the Carlisle Pier, including the spur railway line

Passage time Kingstown-Holyhead set at 3 hours 45 mins, with penalty for every excess minute

Coastguard Station & Cottages opened

Congreational Church, Northumberland Avenue opened - demolished 1950s & replaced by Lees furniture. later Dunnes Supermarket. now vacant building
