Cholera outbreak in Kingstown -124 deaths Foundation stone laid for Presbyterian Church, York road Ferries established between Kingstown and Custom House Quay - two steamers - the Kingstown and the Dublin Feb - sinking of the Neptune and Industry on the East Pier - Captain Boyd and others awarded medals for bravery while attempting rescue. Boyd Monument (obelisk) erected on East Pier August 22nd Queen Victoria & Prince Albert arrive in Kingstown. On 24th August they went on to the Curragh where the Prince of Wales(later Edward VII) had been performing military duties for some months. Then on to Killarney for a few days. August 30th Queen Victoria & Prince Albert departed from Kingstown Eglinton Park completed St Josephs Orphanage, Tivoli Road Lifeboat house completed at the end of the East Pier William & Margaret Huggins (born Longford Terrace, Monkstown) discover that the stars are suns. |

Dublin Builder reports that Kingstown Harbour cost £1m to that date "The Birds Nest" opened in York Road as an orphanage for homeless children Railway siding to the Traders Wharf constructed Deansgrange Cemetery opened Forty Foot bathing place opened Lighthousekeepers house (West Pier) |

Birth of Roger Casement in Kingstown HMS Ajax arrives in Kingstown Harbour and takes up a strategic position as a guardship |

Spire tower of Mariner's Church - foundation stone laid. October - Royal Marine Hotel opened Salthill Hotel opened on site of Salthill House July 5 - U.S.S. Sacramento, a US warship came to Kingstown, and stayed 2 weeks. It was involved in chasing a confederate ship which had not surrendered at the end of the American civil war |

Construction of the Yacht club now called The National Yacht Club near the East Pier (architect Wm Stirling). The club operated under a number of previous names before becoming The National Yacht Club January 1st HMS Ajax arrives in Kingstown Harbour and takes up a strategic position as a guardship. She leaves again in October of the same year October |
