Lauren Poe defeated incumbent Ed Braddy on March 15, 2016 to be elected Mayor of Gainesville, Florida. Poe received 16,245 (57%) votes to Braddy's 11,226 (39%) votes. “In this race I didn't run against Ed Braddy, I ran for Gainesville,” Poe said. “I believed that I could give the voters a real contract to the current leadership at city hall and the voters responded overwhelmingly that that is the path they want Gainesville to take, and the work starts tomorrow.”
