Barbara A. Brearton, 85, of 60 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at her home.
Born on Oct. 25, 1938, in Massena, she was the daughter of James and Luella (Brown) Brearton.
Barbara graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1956 and later attended and graduated from Albany Business College, where she was crowned Sweetheart of Phi Theta Pi Fraternity. Barbara worked for American Airlines for over 35 years as a customer service representative in New York City and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. She moved back to Saranac Lake in 1995 and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard, St. Bernard’s 787 and a volunteer for over 20 years at the Adirondack Medical Center. She enjoyed reading, writing and exercising.
She is survived by one brother, James Brearton of Bonita Springs, Florida; one nephew, Timothy Brearton and his wife Dava Clement-Brearton of Elizabethtown; one grandnephew, Jude Brearton of Lake Placid; and two grandnieces, Sabine and Tatum Brearton.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake at a later date to be announced in the spring. Burial will follow at the North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
