Charles L. Sherrill operated Sherrill's Grocery at 48 Main Street in the late 1800s; he bought the store from Milo B. Miller some time after 1865. In 1899 he sold the store to Marion D. Tremble.
He was the first assistant engineer of the Woodruff Hose Company. He served as treasurer of the Saranac Lake Driving Association. He was a member of the T.B. Society, and of the Pontiac Club, which sold property to the Saranac Lake Boys' Club, Inc., in 1917.
He is reported to have purchased a Peerless or Chalmers automobile in 1917.
