Daniel Farrell was a son of George R. and Carol (Burt) Farrell.  When Danny was fifteen, he and his friend Jamie Collier died in a boating mishap, fishing early in the season when the water was cold.

Funeral service set for Daniel Farrell, 15

SARANAC LAKE - An autopsy has confirmed that the body recovered from Lower Saranac late Monday afternoon was that of missing canoeist Daniel Farrell, 15, of Saranac Lake.

Farrell and a 14-year-old companion James Collier of Saranac Lake had been reported missing on April 12, when they failed to return from fishing.

On April 13, the Collier boy's body was found in a canoe submerged in a shallow cove.

Monday the Farrell boy's body was spotted by boaters in an area between the Sister Islands and an area known as The Caves, the general location where the boating mishap was believed to occurred,

Daniel Farrell was born in Saranac Lake on June 20, 1965, the son of George R. and Carol (Burt) Farrell.

He was a ninth grade student at the Saranac Lake High School and a member of the school's band and junior varsity football team.

He was also a junior member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club and a carrier for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Patrick, and a sister, Darla Jane, all of Saranac Lake; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mendola of Liverpool; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruby Farrell of Saranac Lake and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be held today at the Fortune Funeral Home from and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection, will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m., at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Stephen Leehy officiating.

Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Friends wishing to make donations may make them to the newly established Daniel Farrell Scholarship Fund in care of the Fortune Funeral Home or Dr. Warner Houth at the Saranac Lake High School.
