SARANAC LAKE -Francis T. Madden, 79, a retired carpenter, died Friday morning at his home in Lake Colby.

Mr. Madden was born in Black Brook, a son of Michael and Helena Herron Madden and had lived in this area for 52 years.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 599; Bishop Gabriels General Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; and the Third Order of St. Francis.

His wife, Lillian Colburn Madden, died in May, 1972.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Woodard of Newport, N.H., Sr. Mary Carolyne of Saranac Lake, and Mrs. Eileen LaPlante of Saranac Lake; two step-brothers, Richard Madden of Saranac Lake and Clarence Madden of Rochester; 11 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

A Scriptural Rosary Service, Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus services and the Fourth Degree presentation of the Chalice were held at the Keough and Son Memorial Chapels on Sunday. A Mass of the Resurrection was held at 11:15 a m today at St. Bernard's Church. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

His family requests that friends wishing to remember Mr. Madden make contributions in his name to Uihlein Mercy Center.
