Promoter of Turtle Pond Dies at Saranac L.

George Bergen Carman, 33, of Turtle Pond park and Hempstead, L. I., died last week at his home after an acute illness of several months.

The deceased came to Saranac Lake approximately 10 years ago and during his residence there took an active part in the sporting and social life of the community.

In 1926 he purchased the large tract of land on the Lake Placid road known as Turtle Pond park which is now counted among the finest residential sections in the village. He was connected with the management of Turtle Pond club, a smart private club which played a large part in the winter sports life of Saranac Lake.

When the Chamber of Commerce was most active there Mr. Carman was interested in its activities. He was also a member of the Boat and Waterways club of which he was secretary and treasurer at the time of his death.

Born Sept. 9, 1900, at Hempstead, L. I., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Carman, the deceased received his education at St. Paul's school, Garden City, and at Williams college where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. During his college years he was on the editorial staff of the Williams paper.

A member of the R. O. T. C. while at school, he was transferred to Princeton during the World war. He later did graduate work at Harvard university. He was a member of the Williams club.

SARANAC LAKE, N. Y„ July 20. —George B. Carman, 33-year-old son of Charles W. Carman, stockbroker, of Hempstead, L. I., died here last night of an ailment with which he had been afflicted for several years. In addition to his parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. W. P. Ayres of Greenwich, Conn.
