 R. Gordon Rascoe was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Moses and Edith (Farewell) Rascoe.

Gordon Rascoe

SARANAC LAKE — R. Gordon Rascoe, 67, of 24 River St., died Friday, June 16.

A lifelong resident of the area, he was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Lake Kushaqua, the son of Moses and Edith (Farewell) Rascoe.

He was a self-employed carpenter retiring in 1988. Veteran of World War II, he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army paratroopers, 507th Airborne Division, and was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in Europe.

Mr. Rascoe was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1508, and was past exalted ruler and past district deputy. He was also a member of Veterans of the Foreign Wars Post 3357.

Survivors include a son, R. Gordon Jr. of Saranac Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Scott (Robin) Washburn of Beaufort, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Bowen of Lake Placid and Viola Rascoe of Saranac Lake; a brother, Leonard Rascoe of Mooers; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were Sunday at the Keough and Son Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, with a Bible Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and an Elks ritualistic service at 8 p.m. Sunday.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for today at 11:15 am. at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Elks Club Youth Fund in care of the Keough and Son Funeral Home.
