Halfway Island is a ten-acre island in central Lower Saranac Lake. Until the practice was ended in 1975, there were eleven Platform Tent sites on the island. As a part of the Saranac Lake Islands Campground there are now five campsites.

In his column in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise on July 23, 2011, titled "Technique triumphs over brute strength," guide Joe Hackett writes about Jill Schiffman and her memories of her father Sol Greenspan's state camp, called Camp Bandana, on Halfway Island.
