Henry F. Tummons was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Bernie and Hattie (LaFlesh) Tummons.

SARANAC LAKE-- Henry F. Tummons, 85, of Lake Clear, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at his home following a long illness.

Born on Oct. 16, 1914 in North Bangor, he was the son of Bernie and Hattie (LaFlesh) Tummons.

He married Theresa M. "Tess" LaBrake on July 4, 1953 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale.

Mr. Tummons was a resident, of the Saranac Lake area since 1930. He went to work for Norman Farms in 1930 and worked there for 20 years. He later worked for the Torrington Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator and then worked for New York state in the late 1970s. He worked on the Olympic Ski Jumps, on the. trails at Whiteface Mountain and at Mount Van Hoevenberg on the biathlon trail and the bobsled run until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Tummons was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during. World War II in the 143rd Armored Signal Company, Third Armored Division. Mr. Tummons was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Operators and Engineers Local 106. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Lake Clear, two sons, Donald Tummons of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Bruce Tummons of Naples, Fla.; three daughters, Patricia Couture of Naples, Fla., Irene Dowis of Atlanta, Ga. and Sandra Gagnon of Saranac Lake; eight grandchildren and. several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, ' Arthur, Leland, Bertwell and Burland' "Joe" Tummons.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.

A Bible Vigil service will take, place at 8 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 28 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale with Rev. Francis Flynn officiating. Following cremation, interment will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale.  

Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice or the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
