You Know What... ?

… In June 1942, Lt. Hugh Kelly, 23, was also killed in Florida, at Sarasota, when on a trial bombing run before dawn "the plane got out of control after take off and landed on its back in shallow water." Six others in the crew were killed; two were rescued. Lt. Kelly had lived at 50 Neil Street, with his mother; his father was a patient at Sunmount Veteran's Hospital.

He was a star athlete in football, baseball and wrestling at Saranac Lake High School, where he graduated in 1938, and later attended Clarkson University on an athletic scholarship, where he was captain of the football team. The family had moved to Plattsburgh at the time of his death, and his body was brought there for burial…
