Corporal James Edward Duprea, Jr., was a World War II veteran, killed while in the service. He is buried in Pine Ridge Cemetery.

… Cpl. James E. Duprea Jr., 25, was the first Saranac Lake soldier killed in World War II to be brought back to Saranac Lake for funeral services. This was in October 1943 and Mayor George Carson asked that all businesses close for the funeral. Cpl. Duprea was killed in the crash of a medium bomber 10 miles north of his base at the Army Air Field at Ft. Myers, Ha. He was an aerial engineer and had been at his new base only two weeks…
