James August Harrington

SARANAC LAKE - James August Harrington, 69, of 16 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born Feb. 14, 1929 in New York City, he was the son of Edward James and Emilie (Neninger) Harrington.

He married Isabelle Enroth on April 25, 1953.

Mr. Harrington was a graduate of the New York City School of Industrial Design and studied at the Pratt Institute. He began his career in the commercial art field at Kent Studios and worked for several other commercial art studios. He was last employed by Rexham Corporation, a packaging company, in new York City and Saddlebrook, N.J., where he worked until 1975 when he went into business for himself. He continued to work in the field until his death.

Along with a friend, he published a small poetry magazine for several years. His hobbies include all kinds of crafts, quilting, wood carving, landscape painting, collecting coins and stamps, collecting printing presses and type. He also enjoyed camping and travelling.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army. He had been a resident of Glen Cove until 1969 and Ridgewood, N.J. until 1981 when he moved to Saranac Lake. He was also a volunteer at AMC.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Geoffrey J., Christopher J. and Matther M., all of Saranac Lake; and eight grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Fredrick Dennis, rector of St. Luke's Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Harrietstown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Church in care of the funeral home.
