SARANAC LAKE -- Services were said this morning for Joseph A. Ratelle, 74, who died Friday, June 2, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

A Mass of Christian Burial wus to be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. today at St. Bernard's Church, with burial in the parish cemetery

He was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Pottstown, Pa., the son of Chester and Margaret (Dennison) Ratelle.

He was married Dec. 16, 1932, to the former Louise Favro. She died Sept. 22, 1988.

He was a resident of Saranac Lake since 1922. He worked as a carpenter for Newman and Holmes and Latour Fuel Co., retiring about 10 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Joseph A. Ratelle Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Lynn (Ruth) Whitney, both of Saranac Lake; four brothers, Chester Ratelle, Francis Ratelle and Louis Ratelle, all of Saranac Lake, and Theodore Ratelle of Bloomingdale; two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Martelle and Mrs. Hubert (Grace) St. John, both of Saranac Lake, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Calling hours took place Friday evening at the Keough and Son Funeral Home, with a Bible Vigil at 7:30 p.m.

Donations in Mr. Ratelle's memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.
