Leo A. Commo was a World War I veteran.  He was a photographer, the son of Ambrose and Etta (Cable) Commo. His favorite subject was children; communion group portraits were his specialty.  He lived at 25 Prospect Avenue from 1938 to 1948. From 1954 until his death, he lived at 2 Broadway, next door to his studio.  The Commo studio, later known as the C.C. Studio, originally involved Bernard Carlin and Leo McKillip. After their departure, Mr. Commo ran the business, assisted by his wife, Roma, and other family members, until his death in 1968.

Leo Commo, 69, Dies in Hospital

Leo Arthur Commo, a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake, former civic official and owner of the C.C. Photo Art and Music Studio, died about 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon, at the Saranac Lake General hospital at the age of 69.

The Fortune Funeral home in Saranac Lake is in charge of arrangements. A Rosary Service will be held at the Fortune Chapel at 8 o'clock Thursday night. There will be a veterans service at 7 tomorrow night followed by an Elks Service at 7:30. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Saranac Lake Methodist Church at 10 o'clock Friday morning with burial to be in St. Bernard's cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Roma Lyons Commo whom he married on April 19, 1952. A daughter by a former marriage. Patricia Commo Harrigan and three grandchildren survive.

There is a brother, Medore of Saranac Lake and there are two nephews, Arthur L. Commo, of Philadelphia, Pa. and Richard Commo, of Maspeth, L.I.

Mr. Commo was born in Saranac Lake Nov. 4, 1898, the son of Ambrose and Etta Cagle Commo. He attended local schools and at the age of 18 opened his own business. The C. C. Photo Art and Music Studio which he continued to operate until his death. The business will continue under the management of Mrs. Commo and son-in-law, Michael Harrigan.

Mr. Commo was very interested in civic affairs. He served as chairman of the Harrietstown Democratic committee from 1936 to 1940. He later served as chairman of the Harrietstown Republican committee from 1948 to 1955. He also had held the post of Harrietstown councilman from 1952 to 1955, and in 1956 was justice of the peace, filling an unexpired term.

He was a veteran, of World War One, seeing service in the navy. He was also a member of the Saranac Lake American Legion Post 447; a member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game club, and a lifetime member of the Saranac Lake Elks Lodge 1508.
