Lloyd Preston Bennett was a World War II veteran.  He owned Sparky's Tavern in Loon Lake.

SARANAC LAKE - Lloyd P, Bennett, 64, of Bloomingdale, died Friday afternoon at Champlain Valley Physicians' hospital in Plattsburgh. He had been a resident of Bloomingdale for 40 years.

Mr. Bennett was born March 12, 1915, in Manchester, the son of Harry and Charity Gaffield Bennett. He had served in the Air Force as a glider pilot during World War II, and was decorated for his actions in the Normandy invasion. He retired from the Air Force in 1963 after 24 years of service.

He was a member of the Elks, the Whiteface Mt. Masonic Order, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the American Military Retirees Association.

From 1946 to 1951, he was the owner-operator of Sparky's Tavern in Loon Lake.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James (Linda) Brazy of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Christopher (Chattie) Coward of Albany; three sisters, Doris LaPierre and Florence Bennett of Bloomingdale and Isabelle Quigley of Manchester; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces.

A Mass of the Resurrection was said Monday at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, with Rev. Peter A. Ward officiating.

Burial will be in Merrillsville Cemetery in May.
