Louise Mayer Blumenthal Sulzberger was active in New York City social service work for many years and was a member of the New York State Commission on Aging and the community planning board for the Upper East Side. She was the daughter of Hugo Blumenthal, a banker and philanthropist who was president of the Mount Sinai School of Nursing for many years.
She was educated at Miss Jacobi's, a private school. She founded and directed the Yorkville Neighborhood Club, a recreation center for older people. During both World Wars, she served as a nurse's aide at Roosevelt Hospital. She was named to Community Board 8 by former Mayor Edward I. Koch.
