WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mrs. Nona Catherine Swank Hanes, 94, died March 13 at her home in Winston-Salem, N.C. She had maintained a home, Camp To-No-Na, on Lower Saranac Lake for many years.
Mrs. Hanes was born March 30, 1885, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of Newton Border and Naomi Parsons Swank. She received her early education in Johnstown and later attended Gunston Hall in Washington.
She was married to the late William Marvin Hanes March 30, 1909. Mr. Hanes was the chairman of the P. H. Hanes Knitting Company, now a part of the Hanes Corporation.
Mrs. Hanes was active in community affairs, having helped found the Winston-Salem Parent-Teacher Association. She also organized Christmas parties for the children of the Methodist Children's Home and in 1957, she was presented with the White Rose Circle for 50 years of membership in Kappa Delta sorority.
