Rawson L. Hayes

Rawson L. Hayes who had been in poor health for several months, passed away at his home on the river road last Sunday evening, at the age of 85 years. The funeral was held at his late residence on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. S. T. Ruck conducting the services. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Redwood of Palmyra, Mrs. Anna Thorns of Lake Placid and Mrs. C. A. Tallman Jr., of Jamaica. Three sons, Sanford of this village, Clark, of Lake Placid and Eric of Westport. Also seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hayes’ family were among the earliest settlers in the Adirondacks. He was one of the most popular of the old time guides when this vicinity was almost an unbroken wilderness and in the many years of his life had seen many changes as the country developed in a rapid manner. Mr. Hayes was of a pleasant genial disposition and had a wide circle who will miss his passing. He was a member and faithfully attendant of the Episcopal church as long as his health permitted. The burial was in Brookside cemetery.
