Raymond D. Blauvelt was a son of Silas Blauvelt, and was a member of the class of 1901 at Saranac Lake High School.

A high school publication called "The Alumni" published the following a few years after graduation: "Ray, called 'Lengthy' for short—always had his heart set on building something and in order to gratify this desire took up architecture at Pratt Institute, where he successfully completed his course. On his return home, he accepted a position in the office of Messrs. Scopes and Feustmann and thus became a business rival of Bill [Distin], who was at the same time holding down a position with Messrs. Coulter and Westhoff across the way. Ray's taste of city life was too much for him however, and back he went to Brooklyn to a position in the draughting rooms of the B. R. T. R. R., where he is still 'pushing a pencil.' "

The 1911 publication "The Alumni," reported that "Blauvelt is with the Thompson-Starrett Co., builders, in New York city, looking after the office end of building little thirty- and forty-story office buildings, apartment houses and hotels. He settled down to married life with Miss Carrie LaBounty, of the class of 1899, and is living in Ridgefield Park, N. J."
