Snair Cohen

Snair Cohen, a life-long resident of Saranac Lake and part owner for many years of D. Cohen and Sons, Inc., one of the oldest and largest hardware stores in the North Country, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday at his home, 52 Petrova Avenue.

Mr. Cohen was born Jan. 21, 1896 in Bloomingdale, a son of David and Bessie Zoger Cohen

He was a veteran of World War I with service in the U. S. Army and a member of American Legion Post 447. He was very active in Masonic affairs and belonged to Oriental Temple A.A.Q.N.M., Shriners of Troy; Royal Arch Masons, Wanneta Chapter 291 of Saranac Lake; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. St. Lawrence Lodge of Perfection, Shriners; Adirondack Shrine Association of Shriners of Lake Placid; and Whiteface Mt. Lodge, 789, F and AM. He also was a member of Elks Lodge 1508 and the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club.

His wife, the former Virginia Reid, survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Max and Louie of Saranac Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Krinovitz of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Jennie Michelman of Bloomingdale; two nieces Mrs. Phyllis Feinberg and Mrs. Natalie Sirlin of Long Island.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. at Mr. Cohen s home. A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, also at his home, with Rabbi Selig S. Auerbach of Lake Placid, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot. Keough and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
